At least three youths were arrested by police and CRPF when intense clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Another three persons, including a News Reporter, were injured in the pellet firing by forces.
Reports and sources said that people came out on roads on Wednesday morning raising pro-freedom slogans. However, an army convoy passed through Gulshan Chowk which came under stone pelting attack. “The army men came down and resorted to aerial firing,” local reports said.
Meanwhile, the local reports said, police and CRPF men reached the spot and fired tear gas shells to disperse off the protestors.
“The youths are playing hide and seek and coming out raising freedom slogans from every lane,” a local said.
The local added, “the men in uniform fired hundreds of tear gas canisters to disperse off the protestors. Whole town is engulfed in tear gas smoke and it has created suffocation; even those who are inside their homes are facing tough conditions this time.”
The sources said that men in uniform resorted to ransacking in the tow. “They threw away the loads of fish in the town and damaged whatever came their way.”
The sources further added, “one of the detained included a youth who was working inside a baker shop. Those who were protesting escaped.”
Meanwhile, reports said that at least three civilians sustained injuries in the Bandipora clashes.
One of the injured persons included a Kashmir Convener Reporter, Waheed Bhat.
Speaking to Kashmir Life, Waheed said, “I received pellet injuries in my left leg and foot.” He was locally treated and is ‘fine’.
More so, a news report said that at least fourteen persons, including a fourteen year old youth, were arrested from posh Rajbagh locality in Srinagar last night. However, Kashmir Life could not ascertain the facts independently. The detained persons belonged to Bandipora district and are said to be labourers.
