#Day89: Clashes In Kupwara; Women Protestors Tear Gassed

Police and CRPF men fired tear gas canisters in to a rally of women in North Kashmir’s Kupwara town on Wednesday.

Reports reaching here said that youths resorted to stone pelting this morning. “Soon, men in uniform reached the spot and fired scores of tear gas canisters to disperse off the protestors,” local sources said.

They said that soon a rally of women came out from Malik Mohalla I main town. “But forces resorted to tear gas shelling and did not allow them to come on main road,” locals said.

There were no reports of any injury, however.

At present, they informed, “situation is under control”.

On late Tuesday evening, many private vehicles came under stone pelting attack in Kupwara which were partially damaged, locals said.

In Trehgam town, one of the four detained youths was released this morning. They were arrested last evening. The freed youth was identified as Gh Mohi Ud Din. He had returned from Shimla a day ago of his arrest, a local said. “Police had to release him anyways as he was out of station during pro-freedom protests.”
