Pakistan has handed over a “dossier” to the State Department of United States on “human rights violations in Kashmir”.

A statement issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office said that the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States of America Jalil Abbas Jilani on Monday met with Ambassador Richard Olson, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan at the State Department and handed over a dossier “containing information on the gross human rights violations by the Indian security forces in the Kashmir”.

“The Ambassador stressed that the international community, especially the United States, should take note of the inhuman and degrading treatment being meted out to the innocent civilians including the women, children, elderly and patients, in the occupied Kashmir. The US, being a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, should impress upon India to immediately end the state sponsored terrorism against innocent civilians who have been indiscriminately targeted by Indian forces,” the FO statement posted on its website said.

The statement said that the Pakistan Ambassador also emphasized that the right to self-determination was granted to the people of Kashmir by the United Nations which could not be unilaterally denied by India.

Ambassador Jilani underscored that the international community must ensure “that India as a member of the United Nations, should allow access to international human rights and humanitarian organizations to assess the factual situation in Kashmir”.

Meanwhile, on regional security, the European Union has encouraged Pakistan to continue its efforts in promoting peace in Afghanistan and appreciated Pakistan’s support for a successful outcome of the Brussels Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan on 5 October 2016.

“The Pakistan side apprised the EU about recent developments in the region, including the current situation in Kashmir,” statement issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office said. “Noting with concern the recent developments, the EU side underlined the need for resolving disputes through dialogue and constructive engagement.”
