The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry Wednesday said that it is deeply concerned about the relief and rehabilitation of people of all hues who suffered the 2014 flood deluge in Kashmir.
In a statement, the Chamber said that it has in its Executive Committee Meeting decided to make a comprehensive document pin pointing the lapses on the part of the State administration which led to the devastating flooding of Srinagar city and a vast area contiguous to other towns in the Valley and suggest preventive immediate and long term measures based on research, and expert professional advice for the State/ Central Government to act upon to help save the people from the dreads and devastation caused of floods in future.
Accordingly a meeting of experts, intellectuals including senior engineers with specialization in River basin studies and Hydro Engineering and Structural Engineering was convened under the chairmanship of the President KCC&I Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad on at SKICC, Srinagar. The retired Chief Engineers Superintending Engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control and other experts and researchers on the subject namely Syed Maqbool Hussain, Er SRS Madni, Er Mohammad Ashraf Fazili, Er Hakim Showkat Ahmad, Er Ajaz Rasool, Arjumind Hussain Talib, Er Najeeb Tramboo, Tarique Bhat participated in the deliberation.
In the meeting a broad road map has been framed marking the relevant areas of study viz strengthen of river bands, dredging strategy for downstream Jhelum and Wular lake to make way for flood waters run down without causing damage to the city and towns that need to be concentrated up on immediately to prevent future flooding. The group of technical experts/ researchers in the relevant field in collaboration with The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) are accordingly in the process of collecting necessary data to finalize the document, suggesting various required preventive and remedial measures for the State Government to implement to avert the threat of floods in future.
