Angry protesters held demonstrations at Srinagar’s press colony Monday shouting slogans against MLA Langate, Er Rashid, calling to put an end to his “reign of terror.”
Protesters alleged that Rashid had illegally appropriated the land of Nazir Ahmad War, son of Abdul Ahad War of Mawar, Langate. The case pertaining to the incident is scheduled to be heard on 29th of this month.
Protesters alleged that court was likely to give its decision in favour of War when Rashid, on the evening of 26th July, allegedly sent a group of policemen, forcibly seizing the land.
“Rashid resorted to thrashing of womenfolk and hurled expletives at us,” one of the protesters said.
The protesters, shouting angry slogans demanded stern action against the MLA. “He is using his clout to stifle our rightful demands,” one of the protesters said. “He must be brought to justice.”
Meanwhile, when contacted, Er Rashid dismissed the allegations, terming them as the handiworks of agencies. “Some people can’t digest the works I am doing in my constituency,” he said. “Those who were protesting against me today were handpicked to defame me.”
About the land in question, Rashid said he availed the land in 2005 by “shelling all his savings” and since then has been running a school, which is “one of the top schools of North Kashmir”.
