‘Please Dismantle Mobile Towers’: Landlords tell Cellular Companies

Landlords whose land has been used by cellular companies for tower purposes in North Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district Wednesday in a vehement appeal to the telecom companies to dismantle all the mobile towers installed in the yards of their respective houses.

“I want to inform people through media that the mobile tower on my land has gone defunct. Now I want the cellular company to dismantle it without any delay. I can’t take any chances as you see two innocent people were killed in the town,” said a landlord from Ninglipora Sopore.

Another landlord in whose premises Aircel tower is located told CNS that he fears for his life and wants the cellular company to dismantle the tower as soon as possible. “My little children especially my wife is so scared that they didn’t sleep a minute after the killing at Dooru occurred on Tuesday evening. Please don’t mention my name but give a message to the people responsible for the killing of a landlord and BSNL employee that threatening people will serve no purpose and due to telecommunication disconnectivity, it will be people who will suffer,” another landlord said.

According to police sources there are 37 mobile towers that fall in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore. Besides these 37 towers there are many more which are not functional. Aircel has maximum12 towers followed by Airtel(11), Relaince(5), Vodafone(4), Tata Indicom and Idea 2 each and Government owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has one tower that is located Model Town-B, Sopore.

At Seelo Sopore there are four towers which reportedly have gone defunct in the town on Wednesday afternoon. Reports said that almost all the towers except the tower of BSNL have gone out of order while the signal of the Reliance towers is very weak. “I am on the roof top calling you from the Reliance network. The network is weak and it seems the network will not functioning after some time,” informed a reporter from Sopore town.
