“A fire broke out in the part of Nawa-e-Subha Complex at Zero Bridge, Srinagar leased out to JK Cements at around 5:45 am this morning. The fire was immediately reported to the Fire Services Authorities which promptly dispatched Fire Tenders and Firefighters to the scene,” an NC statement said Sunday evening.

The Fire was brought under control by around 8:00 am but not before it had completely engulfed and gutted the part of the complex that housed the JK Cements Office and also parts of the National Conference Office on the top-floor of the main building that houses the NC Headquarters, the statement added.

“All political offices including the Office of NC Working President Omar Abdullah, NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, NC Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and NC Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu remained unaffected by the blaze but have suffered minor to moderate water-damage. The Party’s library has suffered moderate water and smoke damage but all vital and historic documents that the library had are safe. The Party’s Provincial, District and Youth Wing Offices were also saved from the blaze,” the statement informed adding that the Media Cell of the Party at Nawa-e-Subha Complex has also suffered damage due to water and will function off-location until further notice.

“Nobody was injured or harmed in this unfortunate incident. The Police will probe the cause of the fire and we await their initial conclusions,” the statement further said. “We thank the Fire Services Department for their prompt response and everyone for their calls and concern.”
