Counseling of students for admission to various colleges outside the State under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) will begin on 30th June 2017.
According to a notification issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the nodal agency for PMSSS, the counseling will be simultaneously held at Srinagar, Jammu and Leh.
In Kashmir Amar Singh College, Gogji Bagh, Srinagar has been designated as the counseling centre while in Jammu the counseling centre has been established at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. Similarly, in Ladakh the counseling centre has been setup at Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh. The counseling would begin at 9.00 am at all the designated centres.
As per the AICTE notification, on 30th June 2017 counseling of students from merit no: 001 to 600 will be held, on 1st July 2017 from merit No: 601 to 1400, on 2 July 2017 from merit no: 1401 to 2200, on 3 July 2017 from merit no: 2201 to 3000, on 4 July 2017 from merit no: 3001 to 4000, on 5 July 2017 from merit no: 4001 to 5000 and on 6 July 2017 from merit no: 5001 to 6000.
The counseling for vacant and reserved category seats would be held on 7 July 2017 while the counseling for diploma holder lateral entry students would be held on 8 July 2017.

According to AICTE officials, 25585 students from J&K had this year registered for PMSSS out of whom 19963 students got their documents verified at the designated facilitation centres.
According to Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, this year around 2800 seats would be available in engineering streams while another 1000 seats would be available in general courses under PMSSS. He said 700 recognized professional colleges and 300 general colleges across the country will be admitting the J&K students under PMSSS.
He said under PMSSS, scholarships upto Rs 30000 per annum per student is available for general courses, upto Rs 1.25 lakh per annum per student for engineering courses and upto Rs 3 lakh per annum per student for medical/dental courses. Besides, every student is entitled upto Rs 1 lakh per annum as maintenance charges. The students taking admission, by virtue of their own merit, in institutions like IITs, NITs, Medical Colleges, Dental Colleges and Central Universities outside J&K are also eligible for scholarship under PMSSS.
