Srinagar
The Amarnath Yatra, which began yesterday, was suspended at Baltal and Chandanwari, the two main base stations for Yatris, due to heavy rainfall, reports said on Friday.
Thousands of Amarnath pilgrims had reached Baltal base camp to start the 14-kilometre long trek to the cave shrine on Friday morning.
However, the yatra was suspended due to overnight heavy rainfall and inclement weather forecast, said an official.
“The yatra has been temporarily stopped because of bad weather and slippery road conditions. The yatra will resume only after the weather improves and the latest weather forecast from the meteorological department,” said SSP Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone.
Yesterday a Yatri was killed after a shooting stone hit him on way to the cave along Chandanwari route.
