FRACTICIDE: Sepoy Ranveer Singh of 4 Kumaon posted with 13 Rashtriya Rifles at Manasbal shot dead his five colleagues before shooting himself. Singh, reportedly suffering from stress off late, had an argument with some of his colleagues a night before. He was on guard duty since a night before on a road side bunker on Bandipora-Srinagar.
ALLOCATED: Rs. 19900 crore have been allocated to various sectors under State Plan during last three financial years in the State, Ajay Sadhotra, Minister for Labour Employment, informed the house. These funds are allocated sector wise and not district or constituency wise. The Minister informed that an additional fund to the tune of Rs. 2.39 crore was released during last two financial years to district Rajouri under district sector.
HELD: Rajouri police arrested two suspects Basharat Khan and Mohammad Irshad, both residents of Mendhar, and recovered fake currency from their possession at Manjakote, Rajouri. The duo was travelling in sumo. Police from Irshad’s possession recovered Rs 67,875 including Rs 43,000 fake currency while from Basharat, police seized Rs 19,790, of which, Rs 2500 were fake. A case has been registered and investigations have been started.
DIES: Ashok Kumar, son of Dass Ram, a steel welder died after falling into a manhole. Some passer-by noticed his body into the manhole and informed the police. They rushed to the spot, retrieved the body and shifted the body to district hospital Kathua for post mortem. After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to legal heirs for last rites. A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Kathua police station and investigations have been started.
RECOVERED: Army’s 21 Grenadiers recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), weighing 1.5 kg, and two Rocket Propelling Grenade (RPG) rounds from Teetwal in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The IED diffused by the Military Engineers caused deafening sounds.
EXCELLED: Raza Rabani Butt, 16, from Doda has bagged a gold medal 24th National Bench Press Sub Junior Power Lifting Championship at MA Stadium Jammu. The championship was organised by Indian Power Lifting Federation. Rabani was accorded a warm welcome by his family, friends, relatives and people of the area.
PROVIDED: State assembly passed a controversial law to put moratorium on demolition of illegal structures which have come up in Srinagar, Jammu and Katra in violation of master plans. The law would provide legal cover to the illegal constructions till March 15 under which the Government would task a High Power Committee to prepare a roadmap for regularizing the unauthorized structures, both residential and commercial, against a penalty. Last September, on High Court directions, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) sealed dozens of illegal structures, mostly commercial, in different posh areas of Srinagar city. The law has to go through Upper house and is yet to get the Governor’s consent.
TRANSFERRED: 2886 kanals of land have been transferred to SIDCO for development of the Industrial Estate Ghati in Kathua. The cost of the project is envisaged at Rs. 58.23 crores. The development works have been taken up and the project will be completed in two phases over a period of three years for which administrative approval stands accorded, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, informed the Upper house.
REVEALED; The Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has revealed that 91% residential buildings in Srinagar have been constructed in an unplanned manner, resulting in growth of slums, haphazard development and lack of urban infrastructure. About 43 per cent houses in Srinagar have two, three and more households, the authorities say. The SDA release said Godbole Report has recommended a rational land use policy for the State and rigorous implementation of the Master Plan framed from time to time.
BEGUN: Srinagar will become the first city in Jammu and Kashmir to have a vertical housing colony. The colony, whose foundation was laid by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Bemina, will have 532 residential apartments spread over 91 kanals of land. This step will ease the pressure on land in the congested cities and towns. The project would cost Rs 200 crore and will be provided by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), Government of India.

Governor N N Vohra, the Chancellor Kashmir and Jammu Universities, has appointed Prof Talat Ahmad as Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University for another term of three years beginning June 1, 2014. Professor Talat, is an acclaimed scientist of international repute.
ARRESTED: Police have arrested two accused, who were involved in the gang-rape case of a class 8th student in Nomain area of Katra. Police says the minor was allegedly kidnapped and raped by four persons. Police have registered case under relevant sections and the manhunt for other two accused has begun.
OPENS UP: Indian Army officers threw open a drug de-addiction counselling centre and a dog bite treatment centre in Baramulla. A similar centre was opened at Haft Chinar area of Rambagh in Srinagar by the Indian Army.
ARRESTED: Jammu Police have arrested one thief and recovered a cash of Rs 1,27,000 and some other valuables from his possession. The arrest was made over the complaint of Nazir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Hassan of Lalpora Srinagar who had found some unknown person had broken the window pane of the vehicle and stolen away some cash and other valuable items from the vehicle which he had purchased from Delhi for marriage ceremony. Police immediately registered a case and started investigations.
FOUND:Police have recovered two bodies in Srinagar. One, Mohammad Abdulla Parimoo resident of Rainawari was found near Malkhah and other, Mushtaq Ahmad Hafiz resident of Nowhatta was found near Boulevard road. Police have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC to ascertain the cause of the death.
