SHRC settled 6000 case from past 15 years

State Human Rights Commission has settled all but six thousands cases from past 15 years. All these cases are related to human rights abuses.


According to CNS, from past 15 years, the State Human Rights Commission received at least 237 petitions about custodial killings from different people. The documents available with CNS reveal that the Commission gave its recommendations in five thousand cases. The Commission received the maximum number of complaints (776) during 2007-08 while the number of cases that were registered with the Commission in 2001-02 were 309.


The documents reveal that the Commission received 784 complaints about the enforced disappearances in Kashmir Valley. The Commission has received 963 complaints about harassment. From the past 15 years although 1191 people approached the Commission for ex-gratia but the Commission received only 237 cases pertaining to custodial deaths.


The documents further reveal that the Commission received 290 petitions relating to continuous detention of 290 persons while 65 cases were registered relating to rape and sexual harassment.
