Finance Minister’s cavalcade attacked with Kangris in Charar

Security Guards of State Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rahter used dozens of tear smoke shells when agitated people attacked the cavalcade of the Minister with fire-pots (Kangris) near Chanmohalla, Watkaloo area of Charar-e-Sharief in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.


Eyewitnesses said that Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rahter along with his cavalcade was on way to Srinagar from Charar-e-Shiref on Sunday when people stopped his cavalcade near Chanmohalla Watkaloo. People encircled the luxurious car of the Minister and complained about bad roads, non-availability of electricity and non-clearance of snow from roads.


Reports said that people forced Minister to de-board from his vehicle to have firsthand experience of the area. A local resident said that some of the men who were accompanying Rather objected to the move of the people to make the Minister walk by foot. Reports said that there was heated exchange of words between the said people and the supporters of the Minister.


Eyewitnesses said that agitated people attacked the cavalcade with fire-pots and amid anti NC slogans smashed the windowpanes of the vehicle of the Finance Minister. In a bid to control the situation and disperse the agitated protestors, the security guards of the Minister used dozens of tear smoke shells, which created panic in the area.


Station House Officer Charar-e-Sharief Manzoor Ahmed told CNS that some residents near Chanamohalla Watkaloo stopped the cavalcade of the Finance Minister and briefed him about some problems they were facing. The police officer denied the reports of any attack on the Minister carried out by the people. (CNS)
