The incarcerated Hurriyat Conference (g) Secretary General (I) and chairperson of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Sunday reiterated that Jammu Kashmir was “never” an integral part of India.
Shah was reacting to the statement made by Union CAPD Minister Ram Vilas Paswan that “J&K is India’s integral part”.
In a statement issued to press, Shah said, “Paswan’s remarks are far from reality and contrary to the stand of the international community which has acknowledged Kashmir as a dispute.”
“J&K is not like any other state of India but is a disputed territory which is present in the UN agenda and supported with 18 resolutions at the Security Council. By resorting to the rhetoric of ‘integral part’, India cannot change the reality,” Shah said. “Indian leaders make such irresponsible remarks just to show their country’s hegemony in the subcontinent.”
Rejecting the dialogue under the “ambit of Indian constitution”, Shah said, “such suggestion is put only by those who are bereft of any historical knowledge or are deliberately trying to distort the facts.”
“Ram Vilas Paswan must read the history of Jammu Kashmir and go through the promises made by Indian leaders regarding the Kashmir dispute in the United Nations,” he said.
Shah lamented over the “prejudiced” mind set and approach of Indian leaders vis-à-vis Jammu Kashmir saying India possesses a “war-ideology”.
The pro-freedom leader said, “no doubt India can find its few puppets in Jammu Kashmir who always sing to its tunes but the historical reality cannot be changed.”
“We once again make it clear to India that there is no question of holding talks within the Constitution of India. Only possibility is to resolve the issue as per UN resolutions or through the tripartite talks for which we will continue our struggle. The Hurriyat leadership and the people of Jammu Kashmir have pledged not to accept the Indian supremacy but to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian illegal and forcible occupation,” Shah said.
