A youth identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Dar of Tarzoo, Sopore succumbed Sunday in SKIMS Soura here.
Ishfaq (17) was admitted to SKIMS on July 23 after being injured in clashes in Sopore, his family members said.
The family members of Ishfaq alleged that he was beaten by forces in Sopore on July 23. However, police said that he was injured after “falling down from a tree”. After his critical injury, doctors in SKIMS operated on him and put him in ICU.
Superintendent of Police, Sopore, Harmeet Singh Mehta said that the youth was admitted first in sub-district hospital, Sopore, under MRD No: 84626 for treatment of injury in his “temporal region of the head”.
“Doctors have clearly mentioned in his MRD that he was injured in his head due to a fall from a tree. Then doctors in the hospital referred him to SKIMS where he succumbed today,” SP Mehta said.
He added that the MRD copy lies with police and they will make it “public”.
Block Medical Officer, Sopore, Dr Sami too said that the youth was admitted in the hospital for treatment of head injury due “fall from a tree”.
However, Director SKIMS Dr A G Ahangar said that the youth, namely Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, aged 17 was admitted in the institute on July 23, 2016.
“His brain was critically damaged as he was hit by forces on his head. He could not sustain the head injury and succumbed to his injuries today,” he said.
Meanwhile, police is a statement said that a youth identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Khaliq Dar of Tarzoo, Sopore who had fallen from a tree succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS hospital this morning.
“According to SP Sopore the said boy had fallen from a tree on July 23. He further said that an FIR with regard to spreading of rumours has also been lodged in Police Station Sopore,” the police said.
