Police Thursday disallowed people from holding funeral prayers in absentia of the three militants killed in Pampore gunfight by imposing restrictions and placing majority of the separatist leaders under house arrest.

Geelani led separatist organization Hurriyat (g) had called for the prayers to be held at Pampore after Zuhr prayers on Thursday.

In wake of the programme several leaders of Hurriyat (g) were placed under house arrest or detained.

Spokesperson of the organization said that besides the continuous house imprisonment of APHC Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah and Provincial President Nayeem Ahmad Khan, the state administration also placed Personal Secretary to Hurriyat Chairman Peer Saifullah, Hurriyat spokesperson Ayaz Akbar and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Muhammad Ashraf Laya under house arrest and dozens of other Hurriyat leaders and activists were detained or are being searched by the police.

Authorities imposed restrictions in Pampore while large contingents of Police and Para-military troopers cordoned off main Khankah (shrine) where people were asked to assemble for funeral prayers. Defying restrictions a number of activists from separatist organizations reached Pampore, however they were detained after they tried to enter the shrine.

“The movement of people was restricted and they were not allowed to offer funeral prayers in absentia,” said a Pampore resident to CNS.
