Reiterating call for a shutdown on 27th February, JKLF chairperson Muhammad Yasin Malik Friday condemned the prolonged detention of veteran educationist and social leader Prof SAR Geelani and other students of JNU who have been arrested and charged with sedition in Delhi.
Yasin Malik in a statement issued here said that today Indian ex-ministers and parliamentarians are raising questions about the trial that was given to “martyr” Afzal Guru and are saying that his case was not correctly handled but when Kashmiris and some Indians whose conscience is alive, raise same questions they are being slapped with sedition charges and put behind bars and a “vicious” media trail is also launched against them. “Ban on freedom of expression and thoughts can only be termed as worst kind of dictatorship and Indian rulers are practicing same under the garb of democracy.”
While condemning the “oppressive” behaviour of Indian authorities, JKLF chairman reiterated his call for complete shutdown on Saturday 27th February 2016, against these arrest and “oppression”. He appealed people of Kashmir to observe a complete shutdown and express solidarity with Prof Geelani.
Meanwhile JKLF has expressed its heartfelt grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Abdul Rashid Alkindi of Pogal Banihal who lost his life in an accident on 25th February 2016. Yasin Malik called Dr Al-kindi on phone and expressed condolence to him.
