People in Chek-e-Wagund area of Islamabad district Friday protested against the neglect of state administration as Hepatitis-E cases have been reported in the village.
Locals blame state administration for “playing with their lives” by not taking necessary steps to curb Hepatitis-E in the village. They also demanded availability of doctors in the Primary Health Center.
“Administration is playing with our lives. We are fed with contaminated water, that is the reason of Hepatitis-E outbreak,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local.
“On 19th February, a complaint of jaundice was reported from the village, acting on that a medical team visited for checkup, said Block Medical Officer, Qazigund, Dr M Y Zagoo, “It was found that among 107 villagers 35 were infected by Jaundice. After blood sampling eight people tested positive with Hepatitis-E, he said.
Meanwhile, BMO Qazigund has sent two teams to the village to monitor the situation.
The protesters left the National Highway only after top officials visited the spot and assured them that they will be provided safe drinking water.
“We visited the spot and we are working on the matter. We have assured people that Safe drinking water will be supplied. We will also make sure that proper medical assistance be provided to the people, Said Tehsildar Dooru, Abdul Gaffar.
