A delegation from Ladakh led by Chairman & Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan comprising of District President BJP Unit Kargil Haji Ghulam Mohmmad Khudam, Advisor to CEC Ghulam Rasool Naqvi, Executive Councillor Tsering Angdus and Member of Parliament Ladakh Thupstan Chewang called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at PMO in New Delhi on Friday.
The delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting various issues of Kargil District.
Union Minister of State in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh was also present during the meeting with Prime Minister.
The delegation while expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for providing funds for construction of Zojila Tunnel on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway requested for early execution of works from both sides of the tunnel keeping in view the short working session of the area for which the Prime Minister assured that the work on Zojila Tunnel will start soon this year.
The delegation thoroughly discussed all the issues of Kargil with the Prime Minister and requested him for special financial package to border district for the completion of various important on -going projects of Kargil district which are lying in a state on uncertainty due paucity of funds under the relevant scheme.
They also demanded for inclusion of Kargil town in AMRUT scheme, operation of civil aircraft for Kargil, early expansion of Kargil Airport, opening of Kargil-Skardu road, opening of Central University in Ladakh region, providing of additional funds for early completion of 200 bedded hospital and International standard ice hockey rink at Kargil, creation of Kargil Scout and allotting due share for the youth of Kargil in Army recruitment drive, inclusion of the Purgi language in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution, compensation of damages caused to crops and orchards during flash flood, reconstruction of infrastructural damaged in Phuktal outburst.
The delegation further demanded for sanctioning of 100 MW mini hydro-electric projects and solar power plant and funding for the same may be placed at the disposal of LAHDC Kargil directly. Other several issues were also discussed during the meeting.
