As the class work in University of Kashmir (KU) is suspended after students protested against the detention of Muzamil by JKP, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) students Friday afternoon held protests demanding his release.

Muzamil Dar, a 3rd semester student of KU’s English department was detained by police last Monday evening outside the campus. Following his arrest, the University witnessed huge protests following suspended class works. Besides, the authorities made the students to vacate the hostel.

Reports and witnesses said that just as the Friday prayers culminated students assembled in IUST’s lawns and held protests.

“Police should release Muzamil forthwith,” the students demanded. “We condemn the use of force by police and KU administration on the protesting students on Thursday,” they said.

The witnesses said that students were holding placards reading, “Stop Beating; Release Muzamil Dar, They are Students not Terrorists”.

“Although the exams are going on in IUST, students held protests and stood in solidarity with their KU counterparts,” the witnesses said.
