After students were asked to leave Kashmir University Hostels Friday morning following massive protests against the detention of a 3rd Semester English Student, Muzamil Dar, the female students alleged that they were forcibly evicted from their hostels.

“After protests when we reached our respective hostels, the KU officials came and threatened and asked us to vacate hostels only last evening,” a group of aggrieved female students said. They pleaded for anonymity fearing reprisals from KU administration. “We have clear orders from Vice Chancellor to vacate hostels forthwith,” they said.

The girls alleged that they were beaten to pulp and were injured as well. “We are in no position to move out of KU; our NET exams are in a few days, how can we leave campus which is meant for students?” the students asked.

The students further said that the officials told them late Thursday evening that KU shall snap water, electricity and Mess supplies. “This is vendetta; how can they be so brute in Holy month of Ramzan when all of us are observing fast,” they said.

“Early this morning, the officials came and threw our belongings out of the hostels and shouted on us: leave the campus, go wherever you wish but leave the University,” the students quoted the officials said.

As the students were narrating their ordeal, KU campus flooded with police and the female students started running hitherto, for their safety, the students informed.

Pertinently, KU varsity Thursday evening shot a directive, asking varsity boarders to vacate all hostels till Friday 9am. The move was read a clear case of “vendetta” by students, demanding Dar’s release.

Meanwhile, protests broke out in the campus following the eviction of students from the hostels. Reports said that students assembled before Alama Iqbal Library to hold a silent sit-in.
