Police Fired Tear Gas Shells Inside Jamia Masjid: Mirwaiz

Condemning the desecration of historic Jamia Masjid by government forces, Chairperson Hurriyat (m), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday said that Muslims can never tolerate sacrilege of their religious places.

Addressing a large gathering of devotees at Dastgir Sahab (RA) Shrine Khanyar on the occasion of Urs (Death anniversary) of Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadija (RA), Mirwaiz elaborated on the importance of sacred month of Ramadan and said that where on one hand it inculcates in us tolerance, but on the other it teaches us to rise against injustice.

Referring to the recent incident of the desecration of Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz denounced the use of force on devotees, Nimazees and peaceful protesters by the police inside the Jamia Masjid.

“Apart from desecrating the Masjid,” an amalgm statement quoted Mirwaiz stating, “the police fired tear gas canisters and pepper gas inside the grand mosque.”

“They also forced their way inside the Masjid and mercilessly beat the devotees to the pulp,” Mirwaiz, who leads Friday congregation at the said Jamia, said.

He said that dozens of youth were also arrested by the police. “The police action was unwarranted and reflected the worst form of dictatorial rule being imposed in Kashmir,” he said.

Valley’s Chief Cleric further said, “such cowardly acts won’t douse the spirits of freedom loving people, neither it would force the pro-freedom leadership to retract from its legitimate struggle.”

Paying rich tributes to the wife of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadija (RA), on her Urs (Death Anniversary) Mirwaiz said that she rendered exemplary services and sacrifices for Islam and Muslims, Mirwaiz stated that she remained witness to the prophet hood of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

He stated that Hazrat Khadija (RA) became the object of great veneration by all Muslims, because she lived closest to her husband Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (PBUH) and supported him in his difficulties.

Throwing light over the sacred month of Ramadan, Mirwaiz stated that the basic aim of this month is to spiritually introspect at individual and collective level to create a society based on religious principles and values.
