Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Friday expressed strong concern over the fresh crackdown on pro-freedom leaders, activists, youth and nocturnal raids across Kashmir in view of upcoming “sham” Municipal and Panchayat elections.
Geelani in a statement condemned the shifting of incarcerated Hurriyat spokesperson Gh Ahmad Gulzar, Peer Gh Mohi-ud-din and Advocate Hussian Ahmad Pazalpora to Kot Bhalwal jail, Jammu and arrest of Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Mohammad Yaseen Aataie, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Mohammad Sadiq Lone Nadihal, Javid Ahmad Wani Nadihal, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, Gulzar Ahmad, Aabid Javid Wani, Suhail Mushtaq and Tawseef Ahmad Lone.
“People all over the world protest against excesses and for their judicious demands which is their democratic right but in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, the peaceful protesters are showered with bullets and pellets,” he said.
Hurriyat (G) chairman said that by chocking the democratic voice of people and their peaceful means of protest and denying their basic rights, authorities are creating a war-like situation.
Reiterating the election boycott call, Geelani said that participation in polls “amounts to betrayal of the sacred blood of martyrs and disrespect and humiliation to the unparalleled sacrifices of people in general and youth in particular.”
“Those who participate in elections and seek votes from people have an unending lust of power and wealth, which increases with each passing day,” he said.
“Our educated youth and conscious pro-freedom intellectuals have always come forward in the hour of crises, and I am sure they will not let us down today as well,” Geelani said.
