Kashmir needs a peaceful solution: Pak FM to UN secretary general

Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Geo news reported.

According to a report published by Geo news said that in a meeting with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, Qureshi highlighted the plight of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the report of the Human Rights High Commissioner, Foreign Minister Qureshi expressed grave concern at the plight and suffering of Kashmiris at the hands of government forces.

The report quoted Qureshi as saying that he stressed on peaceful resolution of the dispute, reflecting the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions is important. He also called on the Secretary-General to play his role in the resolution of the dispute.

Qureshi asked Guterres to tell India to stop its “aggressive and jingoistic” narrative in the region, said the report.

The report said that Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi and Secretary General agreed on the importance of regional peace through dialogue.
