Srinagar
A civilian was killed near the site of a gunfight in Noorbagh area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Thursday.
Official sources said that an encounter broke out at Noorbagh in wee hours, resulting in the killing of the civilian.
The slain civilian has been Mohammad Saleem Malik 24, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Malik a resident of Noorbagh.
The firing stopped after some time and it could not be immediately ascertained whether or not militants fled or are hiding in the area where searches were underway when this report was filed.
“A civilian was killed in cross firing at Baghwanpora, Noorbagh during a gunfight while further details are being ascertained and would be shared later,” a news gatherer GNS quoted senior police officer as saying.
He said that the searches are underway to trace out the hiding militants in the area.
Sources said that the militants managed to escape from the spot.
The authorities also deployed Paramilitary forces and police at sensitive places in the old city even as the internet has been snapped in district Srinagar.
