Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers on Wednesday called off their long strike after the assurance from the Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ganai to provide the seventh pay commission from the month of September.
The teachers, led by Teachers joint action committee (TJAC) Abdul Qayoom Wani, have been protesting at Partap Park since September 3, demanding the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission and delinking their salaries from the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development funds.
Ganai along with the many officials while addressing the gathering of hundreds of teachers at Partap Park appealed the teachers to call off their strike as the government has acceded the demand of implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission scale.
“The teachers will be provided the seventh pay commission from the month of September,” the advisor to Governor said, adding that “it was a grave issue as teachers have agitated for almost 28 days.”
“On the direction of the Governor, a team has been formed for the better decisions, apart from the pay commission, other demands that the teachers have will be discussed and examined soon, he said.
