The state government Wednesday said that it has started a movement against the corrupt officials and whoever doesn’t come up to the mark will have to face the law.

Releasing a list of tainted government officials who are facing axe, government spokesperson and minister for education, Naeem Akhtar said that PDP-BJP coalition has ‘just started’ drive against the corrupt and tainted officials.

“This list is a message to all who are accused of amassing disproportionate wealth,” he said. The government has enlisted 63 public officials who shall be disbanded from their services and their properties confiscated.

Replying to questions from media, Akhtar said, “5 police officials have been identified against whom action is being taken.” When asked why has not been any police official accused of human rights excesses identified, Akhtar replied, “every crime is a crime, whether corruption or human rights violation.” “This list includes 5 cops,” he said. Revelation of names and posting of such cops invited laughter from media to the minister.

Admitting that the previous version of New Recruitment Policy had defects, Akhtar said, “being an open government, we accepted positive criticism and now Recruitment Policy has been finalized.”

He said the new policy doesn’t need any new ordinance, however, government has already circulated a notice through General Administration Department.

“The new policy will have two features: one it will be recruiting people on fast track basis and the probationary time of a recruited employee will be of five years,” he said detailing the pros and cons of the policy.

He said that under the new policy, an employee will have to give in five years of satisfactory service and once he/she is regularised the employee will enjoy all benefits, accordingly.

“We tried to strengthen existing system; SSRB will have more members now, PSC will come with full house members,” he said adding that around 7500 posts are being sent to SSRB for recruitment. “SSRB is required to fill them in four months.”

The minister who was flanked by GAD secretary, Gazanfar Hussain and Director Information, Muneer-Ul-Islam, said, “1700 posts of lecturership are vacant in Colleges while 600 such posts are empty in School education department.” “Health department requires 400 doctors.”

“KAS officers are yet to get their cadre,” he said.

He further said that party and government are two different things. “We have started the drive to root out corrupt people and if there is any one enjoying any position he/she will face the law,” he said responding to the question about allegations of corruption against few PDP politicians.

Underscoring the need for transparency in the administration, the state government spokesperson and education minister, Akhtar said that the government will revive the State Accountability Commission.

Addressing a press conference, Akhtar said that commission has been lying defunct for many years they are planning to revive it. “We have recently passed a legislation to increase the age limit of judges which is just to increase the probability of getting effective judges with established integrity to end corruption in the public sector,” he said. That process has been kick-started and we hope that it will be done soon, he said.

Akhtar added that state cabinet shall take final call on Non State Subject issue.
