Steps being taken to bring Mughal Gardens on UNESCO heritage site: Secretary JKAACL

Director, Archives & Archeology, Muneer-ul-Islam, who also holds the charge of Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), today said the department is taking steps to bring famed Mughal Gardens of Srinagar on the world heritage site of UNESCO.

He said this during an interactive session with renowned Conservation Architect Abha Narain Lambal organized by JKAACL and Department of Archives, Archeology and Museums, in Srinagar on Monday.

Islam said that concrete efforts are needed to bring Mughal Gardens on world heritage site of UNESCO. He said the department is taking initiatives to preserve and promote heritage treasure of the Valley. He said that JKAACL is introducing film section besides reviving Tehzeeb Mehal, creation of Art Museum and digitization of literary treasure.

He said that the objective of the interaction was to give nomination dossier for Mughal Gardens as world heritage sites at UNESCO, for which consultation with stack holders of J&K is also being held.

On the occasion, Abha Narain Lambah gave a Power Point Presentation to brief about preservation and promotion of heritage sites, besides initiatives being taken to bring heritage sites on UNESCO map including Mughal Garden, Burzuhama heritage site and cold deserts culture.
