Fundamental rights and duties celebrated at KU, Leh Campus

The Satellite Campus of the University of Kashmir at Leh, organised a function to celebrate “The Fundamental Rights and Duties”. The objective of the programme was to make society aware about their fundamental rights and duties which the constitution of India has guaranteed.

The programme was presided over, as Chief Guest, by C Phunsog (I.A.S) (Retd) Vice-Chancellor, Ladakh University. Speaking on this occasion C. Phunsog stressed that the Fundamental Rights of citizens are critically dependant on the discharge of Fundamental Duties, since both the rights and duties flow from each other. He spoke on the need for every citizen to take his duties towards the nation seriously and urged every citizen to take responsibility for protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country; promoting harmony and defending and promoting the dignity of women.

Sargun Shukla, SSP UT of Ladakh, the guest of honour, in her lecture enlightened the gathering about the rights and duties in the context of constitution of India. Unless each one of us performs one’s duty, the rights of others cannot be realized.

Tsering Wangdu Assistant Professor, Political sciences, in his lecture, said that rights mean freedom which are essential for personal good as well as for the good of the community. The programme was also attended by Deskyong Namgyal, principal EJM College, the student of Leh campus and women from local Village of Taru and Phyang.

While welcoming the dignitaries Prof Farooq Ahmad Khan, Rector, Satellite Campus, Leh said that there is a need of such programmes to make people aware, especially women about their duties towards the nation. He further said that a proper environment for enjoying rights will be created if every citizen performs his duties. Prof Farooq Khan thanked Vice-Chancellor, Ladakh University and Sargun Shukla,  SSP, Union Territory of Ladakh for gracing the occasion. The programme ended with the vote of thanks extended by Jigmath Angmo assistant coordinator, examination.
