Two days ahead of January 26, security across Kashmir has been beefed up while forces have started frisking in Srinagar city and in others parts of the region.

Check points have been erected at many places across Kashmir and frisking has been intensified. Police personnel are seen at many places stopping and checking vehicles.

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel had been deployed all over the city including in Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Civil Secretariat and Old Secretariat. Reports of similar exercises were received from other towns of Kashmir.

The roads leading towards Sher-e- Kashmir Stadium, venue of the main January 26 function in Srinagar, have been sealed with barbed wire and barricades erected around the stadium.

Police forces were also seen carrying out surprise check of the vehicles on the entry and exit points in this capital city. The cops were also seen frisking motorcyclists and passengers of vehicles in Srinagar city.

Similar arrangements had been put in place in the other Valley districts too. Police and paramilitary forces can be seen carrying out searches of all the passenger and private vehicles on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway. Adequate security personnel have also been deployed in Baramulla, Sopore and other sensitive areas reports said.

Security grid has also been tightened in Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag districts of south Kashmir, where troops and police manned the streets and the highway to keep a close watch on the movement of suspicious persons.

The main Republic Day function will be held in Jammu where Lieutenant Governor G.C. Murmu will address and take the salute, while in Srinagar, the Republic Day function will be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium.
