Director General Police (Prisons) V.K. Singh on Sunday visited Prison Headquarters Lucknow where he was informed about the working of the Headquarters which supervises 72 jails of Uttar Pradesh accommodating more than 1 lakh inmates. The DG also interacted with inmates from Jammu and Kashmir who are lodged in District Jail Lucknow.
At present 220 detenues from J&K are lodged in six jails of Uttar Pradesh. The DG Prisons appreciated the efforts of UP jail authorities for facilitating meeting of detenues with visitors and providing proper health care to them.
Singh also interacted with the 17 detenues from J&K lodged in District Jail Lucknow and inquired about their health and other facilities being provided to them at the facility. He was informed that the detenues are regularly allowed to meet their relatives and regular health check-ups are conducted.
It was said that Singh shall be taking up the matter regarding e-mulaqat with the Uttar Pradesh jail administration to enable Kashmir based relatives to interact with the detenues lodged in UP Jails over video-conference.
