Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan on Saturday chaired a meeting to finalize the parking plan for Srinagar city.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Vice Chairman, SDA, Commissioner SMC, Chief Engineer R&B, RTO, Kashmir, SSP Traffic Srinagar City, SSP Traffic Srinagar Rural and other concerned officers.

Threadbare discussions were held with regard to identification of parking areas in Srinagar city and their notification and development. Various suggestions were put forth by the officers for feasibility for creating the parking slots to reduce the unauthorized parking and traffic jams on the City roads.

The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar gave the details of the areas identified by District Administration for the creation of parking spaces. Various parking areas in and around the Lal Chowk, Residency Road, Poloview, Karan Nagar and other business hubs were identified for developing as parking areas.

The meeting identified both daily and hourly parking areas. It was decided that existing SDA parking near SBI Srinagar will now be used as hourly parking and the land near SBI opposite Kothibagh Police Station, will also be developed immediately as hourly parking areas.

Besides, the daily parking areas will be developed near Sangarmall Shopping Complex and near J&K Bank’s Poloview branch while hourly parking areas near SMHS hospital, Government Dental College and Karan Nagar will also be developed.

The Div Com further directed for the installation of signage at various places depicting distance and direction of parking place. He said that a detailed parking plan along with rates will be submitted before the High Court for consideration.

He asked the Srinagar district administration to explore possibilities for developing more parking areas to meet the demands.
