Use E-Resources in Library to the Fullest: CUK V-C

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir Tuesday exhorted upon the faculty members, scholars and students to utilize the e-library resources acquired by the varsity to the fullest.

“The university is keen to procure more e-library resources including e-books and journals, provided that the existing resources available with the library are used to the optimum,” Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said while inaugurating a one-day user awareness programme on e-resources and author workshop, organised by the varsity’s library, in collaboration with Springer India, at Nowgam-I academic block of the University.

Registrar, Prof M Afzal Zargar, Librarian, Reyaz Rufai, Deans of various Schools, faculty members, research scholars of CUK and other Universities in valley were among others present during the programme.

Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university has been very proactive in acquiring the e-resources for helping the scholars to do their research. “However, there have been reports that these e-resources haven’t been used optimally which is, cause of concern,” he said. He added that the university has established a full-fledged browsing centre wherein the scholars and other faculty members can use the e-resources.

Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir also asked the scholars to remain punctual.

Registrar, Prof M Afzal Zargar while speaking on the occasion, said that due to the advent of internet, the world library is now in the hands of an individual. “However, the accuracy and authenticity of the content available on the internet has to be verified before put to use,” Prof Afzal Zargar said. He said the scholars undertaking research in their respective fields should use the e-resources fully and ensure that their research is authentic. “Only the accurate research contribute immensely to the society and can be beneficial,” Prof Zargar added. He said the internet and Wi-Fi facilities in all the three campuses of the varsity were being strengthened.

Librarian, Reyaz Rufai while welcoming the guests gave a detailed overview about the awareness programme on e-resources organised by the library and Springer India. He said that the university library has huge collection of e-resources and the main aim of holding the programme was to sensitise the faculty members and researchers about how to use the e-books and journals.

Surbhee Dhamija, Marketing Manager Academic and Government and Ravi Murugesan, resource person and author workshop gave a detailed presentation on the theme.

Surbhee said the Springer was providing researchers in academic, scientific, institutions with quality content via information products and services. She said the Springer e-book collection with more than 180,000 titles was available on their website. “With a total of 9.4 million documents on our platform, we are largest STM content providers,” she added.

C Kumareson Associate Director Channel Marketing (India) also spoke on the occasion and said that this was 22nd workshop organised by the Springer this year. “We have organised programmes like these in various universities across the country,” he added.
