Kupwara has been ranked as the “best performing district” in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of “Digital India” initiatives.
The felicitation has come on the basis of performance that the district showed during “Digital India Week” held from first to 7th July early this year.
The performance was recognized by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
The award was received by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Rajeev Ranjhan, from Union Minister of Information and Communication, Ravi Shakar Prasad, in New Delhi in a function organized by the ministry.
The second and third best performing districts award went to Poonch and Baramulla, respectively.
The award included a certificate, trophy and e-district approval for Kupwara, e-Panchayat and one digital model village for the district. However, the e-district approval for Kupwara is subject to the approval of the state government. The government has prescribed “Sagy village” of Laderwan Kupwara as “digital model village”.
Meanwhile, a day long awareness-cum-orientation camp was held in Kupwara organized by Department of Social welfare in collaboration with Composite Regional Centre Srinagar on Monday.
The awareness camp was attended by the employees of rural development department and Social workers of the ICDS.
The programme which was held in town hall Kupwara was attended by mass section of disabled persons. The participants were given orientation about speech and hearing therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and disabled management by the resource persons from the Composite Regional centre.
District Social welfare officer Kupwara Peerzada Mumtaz while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the efforts of CRC Srinagar and the Department of Social Welfare towards the disabled population of the state.
Treating the welfare of the disabled people as the priority, he said that there is need to further add up the efforts to bring this section of society in mainstream and maintained that the skill development among them can be a wonderful testimony.
District Kupwara has been sanctioned on DDRC and the centre will provide all services to the disabled persons, under one roof.
During the orientation programme, 25 hearing aids were distributed among the deserving disabled persons. 500 application forms of the social security scheme AASRA were also distributed among the participants.
