J&K government is likely to axe services of around 300 doctors for remaining absent from their duties from many years.

Reports said that government will be notifying the Public Service Commission to fill the vacant posts.

Most of them are believed to be working in private health sector in elsewhere in India and in Gulf countries.

A senior official said the termination orders would be notified from next week after an assessment report by the Health Department, which has sent final notices to the doctors.

“In the last three years, the Health Department has served repeated notices to around 300 specialist doctors who are absent from their duties,” a report claimed, quoting an official. “Though some of them have re-joined their services, most of the doctors are not willing to return. It was time to take strict action against these doctors who have taken the Government for granted.”

The official expressed worry over the abandonment of posts as Government has “invested a lot of money in training these doctors.” He said that their termination will ensure that unemployed doctors are accommodated.
