Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri Tuesday said entrepreneurship is the only viable option to tackle increasing unemployment in the state.
He said J&K has tremendous potential in horticulture, agriculture and allied sectors wherein educated unemployed youth can set up their entrepreneurial ventures with the support from the government, an official statement said this evening.
The Minister was speaking during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Sempora, Pampore today.
MLA Pampore, Mir Zahoor, Director Horticulture, Kashmir and Managing Director JKHPMC accompanied the Minister during his visit to EDI.
Director JKEDI, Dr M I Parray briefed the Minister about the Institute, its working and mandate. A detailed Power Point Presentation was also given on the occasion to make the Minister aware about the performance of JKEDI since its inception.
Dr Parray informed the Minister that the Institute offers a platform to entrepreneurs to enable them to set up their ventures through a host of services like consultancy, information, training, education and finance.
The Minister appreciated JKEDI for its efforts and implementation of government initiatives to tackle unemployment problem in the State.
Veeri also listed the achievements by the Institute to meet its objective ‘to create and nurture an overall enabling environment for the development of entrepreneurship in the State. ’
“I am quite happy to see the kind of facilities available at JKEDI for training aspiring entrepreneurs who in turn can provide employment opportunities to others as well. The educated unemployed youth of our State must take advantage of the facilities available here and become job providers rather than job seekers,” the Minister said.
He further said the unemployment in J&K is increasing day by day and entrepreneurship is the only viable and sustainable option available to tackle it head on.
During his visit, the Minister had a one-to-one interaction with the employees working in different wings of JKEDI. He listened to them patiently to know what assignments they perform to make entrepreneurship a common name among the people of J&K.
Mr. Veeri also interacted with the trainees being trained by the Institute under schemes like Himayat, Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS), and Youth Start-Up Loan Scheme (YSLS).
The minister also visited JKEDI hostel-Jhelum to take stock of lodging and food arrangements in place for the boarders. He paid a visit to the institute guest house-Vitasta as well.
Impressed by the infrastructure available with the Institute, the Minister directed Director Horticulture to conduct all future functions/events of the department at JKEDI.
Chief Programme Officer JKEDI, Dr Majid Manzoor Khan, Manager HR (Personnel), JKEDI, Syed Firdous Bukhari and other officials from JKEDI as well as other line departments also accompanied the minister during his visit to the Institute.
