Senior NC leader and Minister for Forests Mian Altaf is trailing in his home constituency Kangan. Son of a prominent religious Gujjar leader, Altaf has been elected from Kangan since 1987 and remains undefeated. In 2014, he is in close contest with PDP’s businessman-turned-politician Bashir Ahmad Mir, also a local.
PDP’s only female candidate from Hazratbal Asiea Naqash is ahead of NC’s Mohammad Syed Akhoon by 228 votes.
In 2008 elections, Asiea was outnumbered by NC’s patron Dr Farooq Abdullah by 4272 votes in Hazratbal assembly seat.
