Reiterating his call for unity among the pro-freedom parties of Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) leader and chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah Wednesday said the unity among resistance groups is ‘inevitable’, keeping in view the recent ‘election drama’ here and changing political scenario in the world.
“When these power thirsty (pro-India) parties can extend hands to each other in achieving their objectives (power), what prevents us from becoming one when our objective and mission is same,” Shah in a statement on Wednesday said, adding, “We are the guardians of the sacrifices of our martyrs and have to discharge our responsibilities seriously with regards to taking their mission to the logical conclusion.”
He said the pro-India politicians during elections crossed all limits of morality and descended to extreme despicable position while accusing each other.
“Now, when the time for sharing power came, they all extend hands to each other to form the government and are ready to compromise. When these power lusty parties can unite and compromise in achieving the material gains, why can’t we exhibit unity among ourselves which is genuine and sincere,” he said.
Shah further said, “When our mission and objective is same, what do our individual differences stand for? Does keeping such gap among ourselves behove us after rendering in-numerous sacrifices for freedom? I appeal all the pro-freedom leadership to chart out a unanimous strategy with regard to freedom struggle as we are indebted to the sacrifices of our martyrs and have to take their mission to its logical end.”
Urging people not to fall prey to machinations of pro-India parties, Shah said that these parties are responsible for our subjugation and slavery and they can never be our well-wishers, the statement quoted Shah as having said.
“During elections, these parties kept mum over the killings and arbitrary arrests as they were only concerned of getting the blessings of New Delhi.”
Commenting on the role played by Pakistan with regard to Kashmir issue, Shabir Ahmad Shah said the country is victim of internal and external conspiracies that are hell bent upon destabilizing it.
“Despite all this, the Government and people of Pakistan continue to extend every support (political, diplomatic and moral) to their brethren in Kashmir.”
Shah said India has to acknowledge, sooner or later, the bitter truth that Kashmir is an international dispute. Commenting on India’s aggressive and devious policy towards Kashmir issue, Shah said it does not behove a nation, which claims of world’s largest democracy, to usurp the democratic rights and the right of self-determination of its people, the statement added.
The pro-freedom leader said that any solution that goes against the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir is never acceptable and that its people will continue to struggle for their birth right of self-determination, the statement further said.
