BJP-PDP Talks on Government Formation

KL Report

SRINAGAR

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly begun government formation talks in Srinagar last night.

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav arrived in the summer capital last evening from Jammu, and is reported to have had two rounds of talks with senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig.

The first round of talks was held at Baig’s residence and the second round at a hotel where Madhav is staying.

On Thursday, Madhav attended a meeting of BJP’s newly-elected MLAs in Jammu and also held several meetings in Srinagar with leaders of other Kashmir Valley-based political parties as part of efforts to possibly cobble up a BJP-led government in the state for the first time.

The PDP has secured 28 seats in the recently-held five phased assembly elections, while the BJP bagged 25.

PDP spokesman Samir Koul has been reported as saying that talks are still at an infancy stage and it will take some time before any announcements are made.

Pertinently, on Thursday speculations were very high about NC-BJP coalition and people were gossiping around. Majority of the people in Kashmir are against any coalition with the Hindu nationalist Party.
