JK not a Legal Part of India: Geelani

Hurriyat Conference G Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Sunday said that Jammu & Kashmir is in no way a ‘legal part of India’.


“It is a disputed territory which has been accepted by all the world bodies and UNO. This international institution has many a times advocated that the people of Jammu & Kashmir should be given a chance to decide their future and the resolution passed on 5 January 1949 clearly states that a referendum should be held in this state under the supervision of international community and the right to self determination of the people of this region should be respected,” Geelani said.


The India and Pakistan governments are bound to implement these resolutions and co-operate in holding a referendum in the region, he said.


While addressing both the governments, Geelani further said that the resolution of Kashmir issue should be in according to the wishes and aspirations of its people.


“The solution of this issue will prove as master key for the peace and prosperity of the entire South Asian region,” said Hurriyat (G) Chairman appealing the United Nations Secretary General to play his role in the implementation of UNO resolutions on Kashmir and use his influence for the protection of human lives in this region.


Meanwhile, the spokesperson informed that Geelani led Hurriyat Conference is going to organize a daylong seminar on January 5 2015 Monday in relation with the resolution with regarding to the Kashmir dispute passed by the UNO on that day in 1949.
