Parents protest against fee hike by private schools

The Parents Association of Private Schools Kashmir held a protest demonstration at press colony here in Srinagar on Saturday against the fee hike.

The protesting parents raised slogans against the Fee Fixation Committee and termed it an injustice.

The Committee for fixation of fee structure of private educational institutions of J&K state approved a fee rise by 6% annually vide order no. 01-FFC of 2019 issued on January 28, 2019.

Khursheed Ahmad, deputy president of the Parents Association of Private Schools said that the fee was to be raised by 8% over a span of 3 years according to the last year’s order no. 106 but yet another rise has been ordered. “This adds up to 18% fee hike including the taxes and that is overbearing for all the parents,” he said.

The protestors also alleged that the schools are continuing to take hefty admission fee despite being banned by the Supreme Court.

“I enrolled my child to a school in 2014 and agreed to pay an amount of Rs.2200 as tuition fee but it keeps rising every now and then for one reason or other,” said Parvaiz Ahmad, one of the parents.

The association demanded the revocation of the order and also appealed to the governor to form a state education policy to regulate tuition fee and transportation charges.
