SRINAGAR: Authorities on Friday suspended the internet services in Srinagar city and some other parts of Kashmir as a “precautionary measure” in the wake of recent the ban imposed on Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) outfit by the home ministry last night and restrictions in parts of Kashmir.
An official said that they have received the orders from higher-ups to reduce the internet speed as a precautionary measure. The order follows the ban imposed on Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) outfit by the home ministry and restrictions in parts of Kashmir
Apart from Srinagar, the services were also suspended in Islamabad, Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir. Earlier, on Friday morning restrictions were imposed in Old City of summer capital Srinagar and other parts of south Kashmir including Anantnag town.
Reports said that the authorities imposed restrictions in Downtown Srinagar and increased number of police and CRPF men have been deployed there. Similar reports were coming from Anantnag where barricades of barbed wires have been installed in the main town. An official confirming it said that the step has been taken as a precautionary measure to maintain “law and order”.
