Thousands participate in funeral prayers of slain militant killed in Shopian

Srinagar

Thousands of people on Wednesday took part in the funeral prayers of a local Jaish militant who was killed in an encounter with government forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today early morning.

Reports said that thousands of mourners including elderly people from different places arrived in Saidapora Payeen village in Shopian to participate in the funeral prayers.

Earlier, a police spokesman said that two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter.

“Both were affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM. One slain militant was identified as Suhail Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Saidapora Payeen, Shopian and from the incrimination material recovered from the site of the encounter, the other slain militant has been identified as a foreigner from Pakistan,” he said.
