Srinagar: Kashmiri students are being asked to return college in Dehradun to resume their studies only a few days after they were told to leave the place for security reasons.
However, the students who returned to their homes in Kashmir after being harassed and threatened in Dehradun are afraid to go back and demand assurance of getting proper security before they head back to resume their studies in the college.
Many students of BFIT institute, Dehradun complained about getting messages and calls from their respective HOD’s and management of the college for compelling them to resume college at the earliest but the students are apprehensive.
“We are not ready to go back until our security is guaranteed by the college administration. When incidents of attacks on Kashmiri students intensified, management couldn’t provide us with any security and asked us to go back until the situation gets better,” said a student of BFIT living in Baramulla.
He said, “The situation is still not very favourable and we don’t want to risk our lives again. I and my roommates were attacked by some members of Bajrang Dal at our rented apartment in Sudhowala after the Pulwama attack which forced us to flee and we don’t want to face that situation again.”
Another student of the institute from Budgam said that they are being called to reach the college by March 7 to undertake their internal and practical examination failing which they can’t attend the semester exams.
“We definitely want to continue our studies and give exams on time but unless we are given assurance of safety, we are anxious to leave Kashmir and go back,” he said.
Meanwhile, denying the incidents of assault on Kashmiri students, the director of BFIT Dehradun, Aninder Singh Arora said, “The management has not asked the students to leave the college. There are still many students who attend the class-work regularly and if the remaining ones don’t turn up for exams to be held in March, it is their loss. We can’t help them.”
“There are no security issues in the college and if students don’t appear in examinations on time, it would affect their studies and they will be responsible for it,” he said.
