Kanoor village of Kargil witnessed poll boycott on Monday in 4th General Election of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, to protest non-redressal of their various local issues.

People of  Kanoor village of Trespone constituency boycotted the polls alleging lack of basic amenities in the area.

Residents said the village has been ignored by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and in protest, they have boycotted the poll.

The LAHDC Kargil has 30 seats. While the election was held for 26 seats, four Councilors are nominated by the Government with voting rights.

In the fray are ninety candidates, the main tussle is between two parties National conference and Congress.

Local sources said that minor clashes also erupted between workers of two political parties in Sapi village of Choskore Constituency.

They said that the worker of the National conference was beaten by workers of congressmen in Sapi village resulting in a low percentage of polling in the area.

Meanwhile, National conference district president Kargil said that Assitant superintendent of Police allegedly uses unprovoked lathi charge on people who were sitting outside a polling booth in Apathy village.

He said there was no reason to use force on people who were sitting silently.

Earlier Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (LAHDC) Kargil, (Election Authority), Vikas Kundal said that over 70 percent voting was recorded in LAHDC polls.

He said that the counting of votes is scheduled for August 31, 2018. Around 99 candidates are in the fray and by September 5 new Council will be in place.
