Kashmir University’s Department of Students Welfare (DSW) on Monday organized a blood donation camp in the campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi inaugurated the day-long camp in which 101 points of blood were collected, a varsity statement said this evening.
The DSW’s ‘Red Ribbon Club’ had organized the camp in association with J&K Aids Prevention and Control Society.
Prof Andrabi said the main purpose of any education system should be the enlightenment of youth and endeavours like blood donation camps form the bedrock of such enlightenment.
Appreciating students and volunteers who turned up in large numbers for donating their blood, the Vice-Chancellor said: “Such activities shape up the outlook of youth and inculcate the spirit of social activism among them, and engaging with youth at various levels is the foremost priority of the University.”
Dean of Students Welfare, Prof Fayaz Ahmad urged students to come forward for the noble cause and donate blood to help safeguard lives of others.
Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para, Youth President of J&K Peoples Democratic Party highlighted the importance of blood donation. “Humanity can be served best by donating blood voluntarily to the needy,” the KU statement quoted him as having said.
Chief Proctor Dr Naseer Iqbal; CEO, Impression’s Event Management Company Usaid Qureshi and Cultural Officer, DSW and Coordinator Red Ribbon Club, Shahid Ali Khan were also present on the occasion.
The motto of the camp was: “You Don’t Need To Be A Doctor To Save A Life.”
