Kashmir’s first female Chief Minister painted a grim picture of the families of the youth who accompanied them from PaK. She said they are living a pathetic life as J&K treats them as illegal citizens.

“Once they return to the state, they are being treated as illegal citizens,” Ms Mufti said. “We are committed to give them their rights and restore their dignity and honour.”

Informing house that she is aware of the crisis, Ms Mufti said that one of them – a woman from PaK, committed suicide. “I know another case in which a woman whose brother and father died in an accident had no option of going and mourning the deaths on the other side of the LoC,” Ms Mufti said. “What happens to their children, I am aware of it.”

Ms Mufti said that they have been coming through Nepal and would normally be jailed in Delhi, Bihar, Poonch or in Srinagar. “We have failed to give them the dignity and the respect,” she said.

She was carrying a detailed feature that was published by a newspaper. “They do not get passports and we treat them as illegal citizens.”

She said she had earlier taken up the issue with the Home Minister and assured the house that she will take the issue seriously.
