While expressing his concern and anguish over the continuous detention and health condition of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat in Kupwara District Jail, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Sayed Ali Geelani Monday demanded his immediate release.
In a statement to KNS from New Delhi he said, “The duration of PSA slapped over him has although ended but he is still in prison and due to some unknown reasons he is not being released.”
He also strongly condemned the continuous detention of district president Shopian Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, district president Kulgam Mohammad Shaban Dar, Showkat Ahmad and Mohammad Yousuf Mantoo and said, “The government has without any notice placed severe restrictions on our organization and our workers and activists are not allowed to perform their political activities. Abdul Gani Bhat Sopore is a responsible official of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and he is working as district president of Baramullah but he is being victimized by the government and during the period of one year, he was three times slapped with PSA like black law. He is serving the detention from last four months in Kupwara district jail and his health condition is not so good there.”
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that although all other pro-freedom leaders were released after the election 2014 “but Abdul Gani Bhat continued to remain in prison and he is being subject to political vengeance.” “The district president Shopian of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo and his another associate were arrested a month back and they have been kept in Zainapora police station and district president Kulgam Mohammad Shaban Dar with his another associate Showket Ahmad were arrested on 20 February Friday. They have been kept in Kulgam police station and dozens of fabricated cases have been registered against them,” he said.
“Tehreek-Hurriyat is purely a political organization which is peacefully running its political activities. We don’t do any underground activity and our workers perform their activities in broad day light. We have clear and unambiguous agenda and stand but the government is denying political space to the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and they are at war with this organization,” Geelani said.
He cautioned that this policy of government is very dangerous and its consequences can’t be in anyway positive. “The state of Jammu & Kashmir is already suffering from political uncertainty and these types of policies will add to the situations of the state.”
While demanding immediate release of all the political prisoners, the Hurriyat (G) Chairman said, “The political disputes are solved in political ways and no military might of the world can solve this issue with the force and atrocity.”
