57 Encounters, 685 Ceasefire Violations In 2014

J&K witnessed 57 encounter between militants and security forces in 2014, India Home Minister Jr Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.


These encounter led to killing of 110 militants and 47 security men. Security forces arrested 70 others in these incidents, he added.


In Rajya Sabha, defence minister Manohar Parrikar said Pakistan violated 2003 ceasefire as many as 685 times during the last eight months. While 126 violations were reported from LoC, 559 such violations were reported from International Border. While army is manning the LoC, IB is managed by the BSF.


A total of 24 persons were killed as a result of these violations which included five soldiers, three BSF men and 16 civilians.
