SRINAGAR: Three militants killed in a gunfight with the counter-insurgent forces in Mendoora area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahedeen outfit, police said.
While addressing a press conference in Srinagar, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar identified the slain as Arif Bashir of Mandoora Tral, Waris Hassan Naikoo Tral and Syed Asif- Ul Haq Noorpora.
He said that we tried to make them surrender. We will try our best to make the locals militants surrender.
“In around 80 percent cases, we get to know the details of parents of the hiding militants and we try to contact them,” he said.
“Accordingly, Police, CRPF and Army laid cordon. Searches were carried and it got confirmed that militants are present there. As part of SOP, the militants were offered to surrender but they refused,” he said, adding, “They hurled a grenade and opened fire which was retaliated, leading to a gunfight.”
