Shimla incident: Investigations going on, says HP CM

Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday said the investigation into ransacking of shops of Kashmiri traders in Rohru area of Shimla was “going on” and the administration was awaiting the report after which issue of compensation would be decided.

“We have already ordered the investigation. The investigation is going on. Let the report come,” Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur told news agency GNS on phone.

Asked whether compensation would be granted to the affected traders as local police have put the initial loss to Kashmiri businessman at Rs 18 lakhs, the Chief Minister said: “I will see. Let the information come.”

Station House Officer (SHO) Rohru, JR Sharma said that a mob on December 27 attacked several shops including those of Kashmiris.

“A case under FIR number 166 under section 143, 147, 148, 149, 341, 153A and 341 IPC  has been registered into the incident,” SHO said.

He said the loss to the shopkeepers has been estimated at Rs 18 lakhs and the report has been forwarded to the concerned SDM. He said all the traders are safe and no one was hurt in the incident.

Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Sita Ram Mardi (IPS) said that they have collected the video and other evidences of the incident.

“We have launched investigations into the incident and assured the Kashmiri traders of action as per law against those involved,” DGP said, adding the security of the traders will be ensured.
